From new-build private yachts running the latest technology to thirty-year-old oil & gas support vessels working the North Sea every day — R&D maintain, repair and upgrade the electrical systems that keep ships operational.
R&D Electro Technical help maintain and upgrade all types of ships of varying ages. We keep our staff trained in the latest marine technologies, whilst being mindful of the old and proven systems we find along the way.
Our background is as Electro-Technical Officers on large vessels. That means many years working hands-on with electrical and electronic marine equipment from manufacturers all over the world — and the practical habit of sourcing spares or replacement parts quickly to keep your vessel operational rather than waiting alongside.
We follow the ship's single-line diagram: from the generators and power management, through the main switchboard and sub-stations, out to the heavy consumers and the sensitive subsystems that depend on clean, reliable power.
Generators, AVRs, synchronising and load sharing, power management systems and blackout recovery.
Main and emergency switchboards, protection relays, breakers, transformers and distribution boards.
Variable-speed drives, thruster and propulsion control, chillers, AHUs and the motors behind them.
Bridge equipment, gyros, radar, ECDIS, fire and gas detection, alarm and monitoring systems.
GMDSS, VSAT and satellite antennas, tracking and line-up, radio and internal comms.
Networks, servers and Wi-Fi, guest AV and control systems, CCTV and entertainment.
Replacing obsolete equipment, integrating new systems with existing ones, and commissioning.
If it has a cable attached, we will support it. We strive to support any electrical system onboard — old or new, from any manufacturer.
Need parts? We source spares and replacement equipment quickly from suppliers worldwide, so a fault doesn't turn into a cancelled charter or a vessel off hire.
Talk to an engineerThe equipment changes with the vessel's age; the standard of work does not. We are as comfortable commissioning a brand-new AVIT network as we are tracing a 1990s alarm loop.
Yard-stage installation and commissioning, warranty support and the ongoing care of the latest navigation, communication and AV systems.
Daily-duty vessels in the North Sea, where uptime is everything: fast fault-finding, obsolete spares sourced and repairs done between sailings.
Send a short description of the vessel and the fault, and we will come back to you with availability and what we will need on arrival.
